Art & Craft are considered part of a well-rounded education as they provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context. Art & Craft offers opportunities for students to learn the values of teamwork, individual and group responsibility, leadership, physical strength and endurance, competition, diversity, and a sense of culture and community.
After COVID-19, many students dropped out of school due to financial constraints or a lack of aspiration in formal education, which prompted the establishment of this handicrafts program. After a thorough assessment, we found that our students are more engaged in handcrafting and IT training. Thus, introducing handicraft projects can increase their cognitive ability, boost self-confidence, and help these students get back on track. Besides, this project enhances their chances to become self-sufficient adults who can contribute positively to the community and economy.
Aiming to provide a well-rounded education to its students, Hashimukh conducts Art & Craft Training classes every week, where children are involved in various activities of their interest, for instance, crafting, designing, sewing, block printing on fabric, and pottery class.
Gender stereotypes are pervasive in our culture – deeply ingrained by long-standing biases, both conscious and unconscious. Gender stereotyping can potentially limit the development of the natural talents and abilities of boys and girls, women and men, their educational and professional experiences as well as life opportunities in general. Therefore, in Hashimukh we highly encourage our male students to actively take part in such activities as, crafting, designing, and sewing to remove gender stereotyping. Both male and female students are actively involved in creating a diverse range of handmade crafts, including flower vases, tissue boxes, painted sunglasses, handmade ornament sets, table mats, and wall mats.
This would enable male students to be more respectful of their fellow female classmates and will also encourage them to lend helping hands to their mothers and sisters with household chores. These activities aim to empower disadvantaged youth and women in extended families by nurturing their creative talent in the handicraft industry. It focuses on improving the economic situation of underprivileged youth in urban slums, combating child labor through handicraft training, and promoting entrepreneurship, especially during economic downturns.
Additionally, the project promotes sustainable practices through the use of eco-friendly materials and fosters community engagement. Focusing on that Hashimukh has introduced handmade products crafted from recycled materials to students, who are enthusiastic about this eco-friendly craft training. This project not only promotes environmental conservation but also empowers students with financial independence, allowing them to support their families and communities. This initiative prioritizes holistic development and contributes to a more inclusive society, shaping a brighter future for these individuals. In summary, Art & Craft Training has a substantial socioeconomic and environmental impact on the targeted beneficiaries.
Through the Craft Training Program, Hashimukh has introduced an Eco-Friendly Initiative, empowering students to transform waste into art while addressing climate concerns. By repurposing plastic bottles, scotch tape bases, ice cream sticks, and single-use plastics, students create decorative baskets, wall hangings, pen holders, and home décor items instead of contributing to pollution. This initiative nurtures creativity and environmental awareness, promoting sustainable craftsmanship and reducing plastic waste. By engaging in eco-friendly art, students develop a sense of responsibility toward nature, advocating for a greener, more sustainable future.
To date, 700 students have taken Art-Craft training from Hashimukh.
