Recently, the Hashimukh team visited the climate-vulnerable areas of Kalabogi and Nalian in Khulna (the last stretch of land before the Sundarbans). There, we witnessed something truly extraordinary. At the Hashimukh Skill Centre in Nalian and the floating school on a boat in Kalabogi, we saw an inspiring scene— a small classroom gently swaying on the water, filled with children whose eyes are full of dreams.
These children dream of becoming doctors, teachers, and changemakers. Yet, their reality is incredibly challenging. Their homes stand on bamboo stilts above strong tidal waters, and to reach them, they must cross narrow wooden walkways. Every day is a struggle against nature.
Still, they do not give up. They want to learn, to read and write, to gain computer skills. In their eyes, there is determination and a powerful hope for change.
At present, we are able to support a maximum of 30 students in this floating school. However, in Kalabogi alone, there are another 35–40 children waiting every day for a chance to sit in a classroom. They run to the teachers and ask, “Can we study today too?”
Limited space and funding remain our biggest challenges. But we believe that together, we can overcome these barriers. We are committed to creating more space and opportunities for these children very soon.
