The IT Training program initiated by Hashimukh in 2017, aims to provide functional and basic ICT literacy to school children, adolescents and youth from underprivileged slum backgrounds, empowering them with essential IT skills that foster professional growth and prepare them for the technologically advanced world. This initiative played a vital role in contributing to 18 slum youths being placed in IT-based work in 2024.
The program features IT classes conducted five days a week, offering nearly a thousand students foundational IT training to ensure continuous learning and skill development. To accommodate students with varying levels of knowledge and learning capacities, the program is structured into three groups:
The first group, comprising students from classes 5, 6, and 7, focuses on introducing beginners to basic computer literacy. These students are taught fundamental computer operations, including the basics of how computers function, Microsoft Office basic interface. This foundational stage builds their confidence and prepares them for more advanced lessons. The second group consists of students from classes 8 and 9. They delve deeper into IT skills, such as typing, using basic software, projects like result sheet, salary sheet and personal presentation, graphic design projects like magazine cover design, background removal, clipping mask, basic image retouching and exploring creative tasks like digital painting and gaming. This stage encourages practical application and nurtures their problem-solving abilities. The senior group, which includes students from classes 10, 11, and 12, advances to mastering more complex skills, such as internet browsing, video playback, MS Paint artistry, and virus removal, advanced graphic design projects like logo design, calendar design, business card design, flyer design, social media post design. This group focuses on applying technology strategically, empowering students to undertake significant projects for personal, familial, and community benefit.
The rapid growth of technology has led to an increasing demand for IT skills and technology-related jobs. In response, Hashimukh launched the Capacity Enhancement Program as an integral part of its IT Training initiative. This program represents a transformative opportunity for the students of Hashimukh, preparing them to meet the challenges of a competitive job market with advanced IT skills. Participants receive advanced instruction in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, alongside additional topics such as data entry, database management systems (DBMS), graphic design, troubleshooting, photo editing basics, and vector illustration. The provision of laptops and a well-equipped IT lab has significantly boosted enthusiasm among students, resulting in increased class attendance. From 2017, Hashimukh has provided IT training to over 1,000 students.
As part of the ongoing IT Training Program, Hashimukh offers two core courses: the MS Program and Graphic Design. The Basic Computer course currently has approximately 105 students enrolled, while the Graphic Design course caters to 45 adolescent students. The program’s success is attributed to partnerships with esteemed organizations such as the ICT Division, MLAB, The KOW Company, United Trust & Creative IT Institute.
In Today’s fast-paced world that thrives on cut-throat competition, acquiring an education is not just enough. The world of technology is growing rapidly, and so is the demand for IT skills and IT-related jobs. Having said that, in line with our Education Plus Project, we have introduced the Capacity Enhancement program to our advanced-level students who are already proficient in the IT sector and are familiar with the basics. Since the students of advanced level IT training are already capable enough to engage in IT job sectors informally such as freelancing, we want to formalize the process, compensate these students for their efforts, and develop them as a competent workforce in the IT industry for the future. So we are trying to provide them with an appropriate platform. Hence, Hashimukh arranged this Capacity Enhancement program for our students in order to help them compete successfully in their domestic market, observing how their analytical and cognitive skills are improving with each training phase. To date,1000 students have received IT Training Facilities from Hashimukh since 2017.
In the first phase of the Capacity Enhancement Program, our student cohort for this course was made up of senior-year students who had the possibility of dropping out of mainstream education. It was a month-long course on graphic designing, with three days of two-hour sessions weekly. In total, 12 sessions were conducted, and by the end of this course, 20 students had successfully obtained the knowledge of the principles of graphic designing; and the skills needed to perform tasks such as photo-editing, clipping paths, and other graphic arts functions. Following the success of Capacity Enhancement: Phase I, HSKS started its second phase immediately, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2023.
