Education Plus is a programme based on the ideology that supports functional and basic ICT literacy for all children and it is in line with the “Digital Bangladesh” and “Vision 2021” initiatives of the Government. The programme is centered on promoting the basic ICT skills of underprivileged school-going children that can help them thrive professionally by capaciting them with appropriate ICT skill sets. The program is focused mostly on practical tasks enabling the children access to modern computer labs where they will learn how to operate and use computers for specific tasks. It focuses on providing the learners with the correct skill set for entering the job market. With their access to the local and global IT market, they will be able to take forward the vision of Digital Bangladesh.
Since the inception of the project in 2017, Hashimukh has been dedicated to providing comprehensive IT training to the students of Hashimukh School through the appointment of an IT trainer with partial assistance from the ICT Division of the Bangladesh government. The IT trainer plays a crucial role in facilitating the Education Plus course curriculum, which focuses on imparting IT skills to the students. HSKS has trained nearly a thousand students with basic IT training since 2017.
To ensure effective training, the IT trainer conducts IT classes five days a week, allowing for consistent and continuous learning. This regular schedule enables the students to develop their IT proficiency and stay updated with the latest technological advancements. By incorporating IT training into the curriculum, Hashimukh aims to equip the students with valuable digital skills that will benefit them in their academic pursuits and future careers.
The students have been divided into few groups according to their age, class, and understanding capacity. The first group has started from class five as in the absolute beginners. At a very young age, they are now understanding the basic components of a Computer and other activities such as starting a computer, refreshing it, shutting down the PC, and the necessary points that a child should know in this digital era.
The next four groups consist the students each who are now capable of typing complete sentences, using basic software, browsing the internet, googling any keyword, digital painting, operating a game, drawing a village scene through MS Paint, playing a video, scanning and removing a virus or threat with anti-virus software.
The last group has teenage students of Classes 8, 9, and 10. They are now receiving advanced learning in Microsoft Word, Excel & Microsoft PowerPoint, but it is not only confined to Microsoft Office. In addition, we are further aiming to provide training on Data entry, DBMS, Graphic Design, Troubleshooting, Basics of Photo Editing, and the Basics of Vector Illustration as per the curriculum followed.
By teaching them to use these essential tools, we can assure that in the future, they can easily cope-up with other modern technologies and they can learn ways to be self-dependent, they can be capable of coming up with strategies and ideas to initiate something significant in their own and earn money for the betterment of their own lives and families so that they do not have to depend on others in life. MCC, MStudio, The KOW Company, and United Trust have played a pivotal role in implementing the education plus and capacity enhancement project.
In Today’s fast-paced world that thrives on cut-throat competition, acquiring an education is not just enough. The world of technology is growing rapidly, and so is the demand for IT skills and IT-related jobs. Having said that, in line with our Education Plus Project, we have introduced the Capacity Enhancement program to our advanced-level students who are already proficient in the IT sector and are familiar with the basics. Since the students of advanced level IT training are already capable enough to engage in IT job sectors informally such as freelancing, we want to formalize the process, compensate these students for their efforts, and develop them as a competent workforce in the IT industry for the future. So we are trying to provide them with an appropriate platform. Hence, Hashimukh arranged this Capacity Enhancement program for our students in order to help them compete successfully in their domestic market, observing how their analytical and cognitive skills are improving with each training phase. To date,1000 students have received IT Training Facilities from Hashimukh since 2017.
In the first phase of the Capacity Enhancement Program, our student cohort for this course was made up of senior-year students who had the possibility of dropping out of mainstream education. It was a month-long course on graphic designing, with three days of two-hour sessions weekly. In total, 12 sessions were conducted, and by the end of this course, 20 students had successfully obtained the knowledge of the principles of graphic designing; and the skills needed to perform tasks such as photo-editing, clipping paths, and other graphic arts functions. Following the success of Capacity Enhancement: Phase I, HSKS started its second phase immediately, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2023.
